The first time I was alone for any New Year’s Eve - it was 2024 - I went to the city with my old and first digital camera from the early 2000s. Being smaller and easier to handle, I liked the idea of the grained quality night pictures of that festive event that the camera would have produced. The Melbourne Skydeck black and white photo matched the feeling of nostalgia mixed with the inner marvel of the fireworks, observed with solitary celebration among the joyful crowd gathered along the Yarra River. That feeling of distance, that forms by being behind the camera, cannot be sustained for too long but it sure can make some wishes come true.
